Wash & Go with BioCare Curls and Naturals

“Wash and go” is a common term used in the natural hair community. At first, I thought it was just washing your hair then you go. But no, it’s really not as the term says it is. It’s way more than that but much easier to work with than twist outs or braid outs or flat twists etc. Wash and Gos are my go-to hairstyles because I get just little time to work with my hair.

Washing your hair frequently is a major tip if you want healthy looking hair. And its not just washing your hair but Washing your hair with the right products. I have been using the Biocare leave-in conditioner for some time but this weekend I tried out most of the products from the line. This post is going to be a review of the Biocare line. After pre-pooing with olive oil (see previous post on pre-poo),

  1. I washed my hair with the Biocare Cleansing shampoo. This Shampoo smells really great and is light but lathers well. It left my frizzy hair looking soft and manageable.
  2. Deep condition with Biocare Conditioning Mask. This mask also smells really great and is not as thick as the Shea Moisture JBCO Conditioning mask. However, it gave me a lot of slip making detangling easy.
  3. Cover with a plastic bag and wait for about 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse hair with cold water and dry with a clean cotton shirt. My hair looked very moisturised, soft and my curls were evident.
  5. Apply Biocare leave-in Conditioner, Olive oil and Biocare Dream Curl And Custard  to get defined curls then Style.
  6. Leave to air dry.
  7. Now you are ready to rock your “wash and go”

I particularly liked using the Biocare Products because it is water based hence helps in giving moisture to your hair and keeps your hair hydrated.

It is also light so does not lead to excessive product build up.

It has a lot of slip so helps you  detangle your hair easily in the conditioning process. Not forgetting it smells really great. Not forgetting its super affordable

I highly recommend it and I think you should definitely try it.

DIY PROTEIN TREATMENT

Natural Hair love

So my hair started to look so dry with a lot of single strand knots and I knew it was time for my protein treatment. After all it had been 5 weeks since my last protein treatment.

Hair is largely composed of Keratin, a protein made up of amino acids. In order to grow new hair, your body must produce more amino acids, which it can only do from consuming protein. Doing a protein treatment every 4-6 weeks helps in your natural hair growth since your hair needs some amount of protein to grow and look healthy.

Benefits

  • Helps with hair growth
  • Leaves her looking shiny and moisturized
  • Strengthens dry and brittle hair
  • Temporarily mends split ends
  • Treats damage from heat styling

There are a lot of DIY protein treatments you can use for your hair. Use what you have in your kitchen. I, however used Egg+Mayo+Honey+Olive oil

DIY PROTEIN TREATMENT

Steps

Before protein treatment

Mix 1 egg with 10 tablespoons of Mayonnaise(you can use more or less depending on the length of your hair). Add 2 table spoons of olive oil and 4 table spoons of honey. Mix together to form a nice paste. (I know it smells really bad but Don’t taste it!!)

  • Section your hair into 4 sections.
  • Put the mixture in your hair. Starting fromthe roots to tips. Especially tips. Your tips can really get really dry and that’s where you get the knots. Twist it when you are done.
  • Do same to all sections.
  • Cover your hair with a plastic bag and Let it sit in for 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Rinse your hair with cold water. (Don’t use warm water because It can cause the egg to cook up in your hair)
  • Shampoo your hair. This time I used the Shea moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Shampoo. It smells really good but doesn’t lather easily. This shouldn’t be a worry since you don’t need the shampoo to lather in your hair before you know it’s actually good. Just use enough to make your hair clean.
  • Rinse with warm water
  • Deep condition your hair with the Dhea moisture JBCO  Hair Mask and leave to sit in hair for 15 minutes
  • Rinse with cold water.  the 2 pictures above are  just after my wash. I have no products in yet. The protein treatment and the JBCO hair mask left my hair so soft, shiny, curly and moisturized as seen.
  • Apply your Leave-in, oil and cream and style your hair as preferred I had a wedding to attend so I left my hair to air dry and styled it this way

Products used

  • Shea moisture Coconut and hibiscus Shampoo
  • Shea Moisture JBCO hair mask
  • Curls and Naturals Leave-in conditioner
  • Olive oil
  • Shea moisture Coconut and Hibiscus  Curl smoothie

CONFUSED??? LOC METHOD VS LCO METHOD…

img_0840-1If you are a naturalista you’ve probably heard of the LOC method and the LCO method. If not, this is simply LIQUID(L), OIL(O) AND CREAM(C) or LIQUID(L), CREAM(C), OIL(O) which are the steps used after shampooing and conditioning. Sometimes, no! Most of the time many of us get confused as to which method is best for our hair since there have been a lot of articles as to which method is best for which hair type. I am still confused myself. But as I always say- “Do what best works for your hair”. I personally use the LOC method (which I actually just realized since I never really pay attention to it) and it works for my hair. Your hair might work better with the LCO method. All you have to do is try it.

So, in order to understand this better we’ve got to know how all this LOC or LCO helps our hair then you can choose which method suits best for your hair.img_0856-1

L- this can be either water or a water-based leave-in conditioner. Water is best used to add moisture to the hair. Water should be your best friend. For added moisture, use a water based Leave-in Conditioner.

OThe oil acts as a moisturizer and sealant. It seals in the moisture. Examples are Coconut oil, Olive oil, Avocado oil. Some oils act as just sealants and these are best used when using the LCO METHOD. Eg Jojoba oil, Grapeseed oil, Jamaican Black Castor oil

CThis cream can be a whipped cream, curl enhancing smoothie or shea butter. This also adds moisture and also seals the hair cuticles.

If using the LCO method, You use the Cream before your oil which should be a sealing oil. img_0857-1

If your hair is constantly dry, I will recommend using the LCO method since the Oil acts as a final sealant and seals in the moisture from the leave-in and Cream.

Please comment below on which method worked best on your hair… Thanks guys  Thumbs up!!!!

HOW TO GET BOMB TWIST OUTS!

img_0221-3img_0349I see many pictures and videos on YouTube of girls with curly hair getting perfect twist outs and I always wondered why my hair just wouldn’t let me be great. I tried many ways of getting very defined curls and watched a whole lot of videos and product reviews wishing my hair would just be like theirs. I realized much later that everyone’s hair really is different and responds to products and twist outs differently. So I just decided to try my own twist outs with a different mindset and they turned out perfectly.

STEPS

  • Pre- poo with oils and moisturizer of your choice (see previous post on pre-pooing)
  • Shampoo with a good sulfate-free shampoo
  • Deep condition. I used the bio care curls and naturals conditioner. It helps to easily detangle the hairimg_0194-3
  • Rinse hair with cold water
  • Do the LOC method (leave-in, Oil, Cream). I used the Shea moisture Coconut and Hibiscus curl Enhancing smoothie to get very defined twists.img_0203-3
  • Take a small portion of your hair and apply the cream then do some mini twists. This may take about an hour (don’t worry just be patient)img_0222-3
  • Leave twists on for about 2 days. Because they are mini twists you can easily rock them out
  • Before unravelling twists, pass over your twists with a little oil to add shine Then carefully undo your twits
  • pass over with your fingers or a big tooth comb to give it some volume and style as you please.img_0396-3

Is it Your Hair Wash Day? Wait! PRE-POO FIRST!!!

img_6015

So the first time I came across pre-poo I was like “Pre-poo????? What is that?” I know ‘pre’ means ‘before’ but ‘poo?’ ‘pooooo???’ eeeeewwww. Then it hit me- girl its ‘Shampoo’…hahaha.

Anyway, pre-poo is very important in your natural hair journey. It simply means applying natural oils to your hair before shampooing, usually for an hour to overnight. img_6020

The oils best used for pre-poo are Coconut oil, Olive oil, Peppermint oil, Argan oil or a blend of  oils you feel works best on your hair. You could also add banana, whole fat yoghurt or honey to your oil if you feel your hair is dry and is really breaking.

I just started using  Argan oil for my hair because its a soft oil and its working perfectly for my hair. Yet to try out the peppermint oil though. img_5879

BENEFITS OF PRE-POO

  • It restores moisture and helps in the detangling process
  • Protects the hair from harsh shampoos
  • Restores shine
  • Softens the hair

HOW TO PRE-POO

  • Divide your hair into sections
  • Heat your oil in a microwave or place in a bowl of hot water to warm it up
  • Apply to the hair, from roots to tips and twist it up.
  • Cover your hair with a shower cap or satin cap and allow it to sit in hair for 1hour to overnight
  • Shampoo and deep condition
  • Apply leave-in and styleimg_5988img_5989 Try and pre-poo as often as you shampoo and you’ll definitely reap the benefits of what you pre-poo.

For my wash hair day in the pictures you see, I used the following products:
